18K SEA EAGLE & CRAB PENDANT

Struck by hand in the 5th century BC, this silver didrachm bears the symbols of one of the great cities of ancient Sicily. On the obverse, a sea eagle stands in quiet command, inscribed “AKPA,” the mark of Akragas. Associated with Zeus, the eagle conveys divine authority and power. The reverse reveals a crab within a shallow incuse, the enduring emblem of Akragas—symbolizing stability, permanence, and the city’s deep connection
to the sea.
